Generating Reports on Demand

The Reports module allows you to generate structured reports from collected audit log data immediately without waiting for a scheduled run. On-demand report generation is useful for incident investigation, pre-audit preparation, ad-hoc compliance checks, and any situation where you need a structured snapshot of audit data right away. This article covers how to generate, download, and manage reports on demand.

Accessing the Reports module:

  1. Log in to the LT Auditor MP web portal
  2. Navigate to Reports in the main navigation menu
  3. The Reports page displays the following tabs:
Tab Description
All Reports Every report you have access to
My Reports Reports you created
System Reports Pre-configured reports included with LT Auditor MP
Shared Reports Reports shared by other users
Favorites Reports you have marked as favorites

Generating an existing report on demand:

If the report you need already exists:

  1. Locate the report in the reports list
  2. Click to open the report
  3. Select the date range for this run:
    • Fixed Range — specific start and end dates
    • Relative Range — Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, etc.
    • Custom Range — dynamic ranges such as Previous Month or Current Quarter
  4. Click Generate Report
  5. Wait for generation to complete — a progress indicator displays for larger reports
  6. Download the report in your preferred format:
    • CSV — for use in Excel or data analysis tools
    • Excel — native Excel format with formatting applied
    • PDF — formatted document for auditor submission or printing

Creating and running a new report:

If no suitable report exists create one before generating:

  1. Click Create Report
  2. Configure the basic information:
Field Description
Report Name A clear descriptive name
Description A summary of the report’s purpose and content
Environment The monitored environment to report on
Category The log category to include
Report Type Standard, Summary, or Detailed
  1. Configure report filters:
    • Date Range — fixed, relative, or custom
    • Field Filters — conditions the log data must meet
    • Operation Filters — which event types to include
  2. Configure report columns:
    • Select fields to include
    • Drag to reorder
    • Set column widths
    • Configure sorting
  3. Optionally configure grouping and aggregation:
Aggregation Description
Count Number of records in each group
Sum Total of a numeric field
Average Mean value
Min / Max Minimum and maximum values
  1. Click Save
  2. Click Generate Report to run immediately

Viewing report history:

Every time a report is generated the result is saved and can be retrieved without regenerating:

  1. Open the report
  2. Click View History
  3. Browse past report runs — each entry shows:
    • Generation date and time
    • Date range covered
    • Record count
    • Whether generated manually or by a scheduled job
  4. Click any historical entry to download that report file

Report history allows you to compare results across different time periods without regenerating — useful for identifying trends or changes in audit activity over time.

  2. Click the Star icon to add it to your favorites
  3. Access favorite reports quickly from the Favorites tab

When to use on-demand generation vs. scheduled reports:

Situation Recommended Approach
Incident investigation requiring immediate data On-demand generation
Pre-audit preparation On-demand generation
Ad-hoc compliance check On-demand generation
Regular compliance documentation Scheduled report
Monthly or quarterly stakeholder reporting Scheduled report
Routine security monitoring reports Scheduled report

For guidance on setting up scheduled report delivery see the Reports article.

Best practices:

  • Test new reports with a small date range before generating across a broader period — this confirms the report is configured correctly before committing to a larger run
  • Use descriptive report names and descriptions especially for shared reports so other users understand the purpose without opening the configuration
  • Use grouping and aggregation for large datasets to produce manageable summary reports rather than full detail exports
  • Save frequently used report configurations as templates so they can be quickly reused without reconfiguration
  • Review report history before regenerating — a previously generated report covering the same period may already be available for download
  • For very large datasets consider scheduling the report for off-hours delivery rather than generating on demand during peak hours
  • Export and retain reports related to security incidents or compliance audits as part of your evidence library

[Your administrator should maintain a standard library of reports for common monitoring and compliance scenarios and share them with the relevant team members so on-demand generation is as simple as opening the report and clicking Generate.]
