Find Your Sensitive Data Before an Auditor Does

Regulated data rarely stays where it was put. It gets copied into a working folder for a project, exported to a spreadsheet for a report, and left on a share that was opened up years ago for a team that no longer exists. The original system is well controlled. The copies are not.

Discovery comes before control

You cannot protect data you have not located, and most organizations underestimate the spread. Personal data, payment data and health records end up in file shares, home directories and archive folders that nobody has reviewed since they were created.

The useful question is not whether sensitive data exists outside the system of record. It is where it sits, and who can reach it today.

Permissions are the second problem

Access accumulates. People change roles and keep old group memberships. Contractors get added to a share for one project and stay. Nested groups grant rights nobody intended and nobody can see without walking the tree.

By the time an auditor asks who has access to a folder holding personal data, the honest answer at many organizations is that working it out would take a week.

What a discovery result should tell you

A list of files is not much use by itself. What makes it actionable is pairing location with classification and reach: which folders hold regulated information, how exposed each one is, and which users and groups can currently open them. That turns a scan into a work queue you can order by risk instead of by folder size.

Discovery is a starting point

A scan describes one moment. Data moves the next day. The value comes from watching the locations you found, so that new access, permission changes and unusual read patterns surface while they still mean something.

LT AuditorMP® discovers files containing personal and other regulated information, identifies the users and groups with access to them, and monitors access and changes to those files in real time. Unusual activity raises an alert instead of waiting for the next review cycle.
